Insecurity: Police begins show of force in Lagos

Lagos Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu on Thursday ordered a “massive and well-coordinated show of force” across the state amid insecurity in some parts.

He issued the directive to Area Commanders, Commanders of Taskforce, Tactical Teams, Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, RRS, and other units of the command.

Adekunle Ajisebutu, Public Relations Officer in a statement explained that the exercise is not meant to intimidate law-abiding citizens.

The spokesman said the parade was to reassure them of the security agency’s readiness to take on hoodlums and other elements ahead of the ’ember months’ period.

Odumosu told citizens to go about their legitimate activities and assured that the showcase would not infringe on their rights.

The police appealed to residents to provide credible information about criminals and their activities.

Odumosu’s order came less than two weeks after he tasked operatives to start a ‘stop and search‘ on the Lekki-Ajah road.

Several cases of robberies have been witnessed on the axis, especially within the early morning hours and nighttime. The 24-hour police patrol seeks to curb the challenge.

Also, as part of efforts to fight insecurity, the Lagos government has ordered street beggars and hawkers to stay away or risk arrest.
