The Acting Vice Chancellor of the university of Ibadan, Professor Babatunde Adebola Ekanola, has joined the Vice Chancellorship race of the institution.
DAILY POST gathered on Wednesday that Ekanola’s application is one of the 14 applications submitted at the close of the six-week advertisement for the position of Vice Chancellor of the university.
The application our correspondent learnt, closed last Thursday.
DAILY POST recalls that Ekanola, is the first indigene of Ibadan to occupy that position either as Acting or substantive Vice Chancellor since the established of the university in 1948.
Ekanola, a native of Aragba in Ayeye area in Ibadan North-West local government area, lectures in the faculty of Arts.
His appointment on November 30th 2020 for the period of six months became necessary due to failure of the university to appoint a substantive VC last year.
DAILY POST learnt that the Premier university was engulfed in series of crises due to clashes and misunderstandings between various interest groups on how to appoint a substantive VC in the institution.
The tenure of Professor Idowu Olayinka, immediate past VC expired on November 30th which necessitated the appointment of Ekanola.
The crisis that surrounded the appointment of the substantive VC made the federal government to cancel the process.
A new advertisement was placed immediately after the first process was cancelled.
As the race was ongoing, our correspondent gathered that Ekanola’s appointment was extended for another six months after the Senate of the university allegedly disobeyed the university law.
The law stated that an Acting Vice should not spend more than six months in office.
Our correspondent, however, gathered that Ekanola
has joined thirteen (13) other professors to jostle for the highest position in the ivory tower.
